On The Wind
DC Martin
Borrowed a box of broken dreams
and picked through a few,
but none fit the hole within my chest,
so I tucked a few just out of view
and to the hopeless, I gave the rest.
My feet led me to where I'll sleep tonight,
so arriving I sat and leaned against the wall,
as the rain it fell like a symphony
in an abandoned concert hall,
The wind it seems to call your name
or perhaps that's just what I would like to hear,
and the shadows deceive, for I do believe,
sometimes I can see you standing there.
Standing off to the corner,
just on the edge of my field of view,
smiling and asking where have I been,
God knows, I'd tell you if I knew,
My memories are what’s broken,
that and everything else that makes me whole,
an incomplete disaster,
a staggering body without a soul,
in search of what I once was,
and hoping that I'll never find that place,
longing to go back just one more time,
to make up for my mistakes,
But the wind it seems to call your name,
or perhaps that's just what I would like to hear,
and the shadows deceive for I do believe,
sometimes I can see you standing there.
So I'll keep on stumbling forward,
as I fall backwards once again
and keep an eye out for you my love,
I'll keep searching for my friend,
On the breeze I'll hear them whisper,
your name so very soft
and perhaps I'll borrow a broken dream
that someone else has lost
For the wind it seems to call your name,
or perhaps that's just what I would like to hear,
and the shadows deceive, for I do believe,
sometimes I can see you standing there
